Ask Tracy: Ask and Answer for September

Q: Hi Tracy. I see cowboy boots in all the stores and on your site as well. How do I wear these boots without looking like I just got off a horse? Are they realistic for every day wear?

  • Ruthie from Florida

A: Hey Ruthie, you just hit on one of my favorite fall shoe trends. First of all look at them as American Vintage boots, not cowboy. They are not only realistic, but they are a MUST HAVE for fall. You wear them with jeans, skinny and tucked in, and a longer tunic top and vest. You can wear them with a printed, flowy dress and longer cardigan. You can wear them with a long dress and vest or motorcycle jacket. I think you get the picture….I love the short ankle height boots the most because they are newest, but the mid height looks are just as versatile.

Q: If I could buy just one boot this Fall that is versatile and I could wear to work as well as going out…what do you recommend?

  • Jules23 from Minnesota

A: Great question…and I have an answer that you will love! There is such a style…the convertible! No it isn’t topless, it just morphs from an over-the-knee boot to a cuffed boot and/or a scrunched boot.
Yea, it’s pretty awesome… the Sam Edelman (love the entire brand) Jackson. It’s available in dark brown, black and stone suede….all very versatile and gorgeous!! Log on and buy a pair and then send me a pic of you looking all cute!

Q: I love all the new grey & taupe colored boots I’m seeing on shoes.com, but I love to wear a lot of black, so how can I wear them without buying all new clothes?

  • Cathi from Indiana

A: I love it too! It is the color suede is meant to be in …but the leathers look yummy too. Black is THE color this season…but in my opinion it always is, and taupe and grey can give it a whole new meaning. If you are rocking metal hardware on your jacket or accessories, the dark greys pick up that metal color and really set off a look…instead of just black boots or shoes. The taupe really adds richness and sophistication. Add a scarf with some taupey colors in it or a jacket. And mixing all three, taupe, grey and black is really beautiful as well. Just make sure you pull it all together with one piece that has all three shades. Something like this: Black top and black jeans, plaid shirt or jacket with taupes and greys in it , grey or taupe boots. Got it?
